Here is the list of candidates for the Primary election on Feb 19 and the general election on Apr 2. Hilited names will have a Primary election, since there are more than two candidates. If you live, work, or own property in Door County, Wisconsin, and want to reduce your taxes, read on.

The Door County Supervisors have voted to build a massive, expensive, $25 million Justice Center at the south edge of Sturgeon Bay. This will raise all of our taxes by 17% starting next year for this project alone.

COG feels this action should be stopped. A petition signed by 1550 residents was ignored by the County Board. A recall of the supervisors that voted for the Justice Center project may be the only way to stop it.

  Candidates must file Campaign Registration Statement (Form EB-1) BEFORE circulating Nomination Papers. Nomination Papers may then be circulated to obtain signatures. Only 20 signatures are required, but it is a good idea to turn in more, so if any are unacceptable for any reason, there will still be enough signatures.

  When Nomination Papers are filed, a Declaration of Candidacy must also be filed in order to have a candidate's name placed on the ballot.

• Who can be a Petition Circulator?

  A petition circulator – one who passes around the petition and obtains signatures – must be qualified to vote in that supervisory district. You do not have to be registered to vote.

• What does a Petition Circulator do?

  A Petition Circulator gathers all signatures by personally making contact with each person who signs the petition and sees him or her sign it. You cannot leave the petition unattended in a public place for signatures.

  How To Circulate A Petition

  1. Download Page 1 (front) PDF Version and print it
  2. Download Page 2 (back) PDF Version and print it
  3. On Page 1, fill out the first blank line ("We, the undersigned...") with your district number like this: "County Supervisory District ____"
  4. Fill out the next line ("petition for the recall of") with the name of the supervisor for your district, like this: "County Supervisor _____"
  5. Leave the "Statement of Reason For Recall" lines blank
  6. Collect signatures (see below) and verify that each signer has completed all required information on both pages of the petition.
  7. When ten signatures have been obtained or the deadline is looming, fill out the bottom of the form ("Certification...") with the Petition Circulator's name, address, date and signature. Do not fill out this part of the form too soon; this date may not be earlier than the latest date of any of the signers.
  8. Deliver all signed petitions to your team leader, or to Pat Miller at 4814 Bark Road, Sturgeon Bay, WI 54235 no later than November 30, 2001.

• Who can sign a petition?

  A petition signer must be qualified to vote in the supervisory district the petition is for. You do not have to be registered to vote.

• How do I sign a petition?

  • SIGN your name on one line under "Signatures of Electors"
  • Fill in your street number and name where you live. NOTE: Post Office boxes cannot be used.
  • Fill in the "Municipality of Residence" and check Town, City or Village. This may be different from your mailing address; for example, many residents in the Town of Sevastopol have a Sturgeon Bay mailing address.
  • Fill in the Date of Signing
  • PRINT your name, phone number and email address, if available, on the back of the petition (this is page 2 if you downloaded it)

  • What District Am I In?

    Take a look at one of these maps. If you can't find out from the maps, call one of our Petition Leaders above.

    Note that the district boundaries for the OLD 20 districts are different from the NEW 21 districts that go into effect for the next regular election.

  • What does “Qualified to Vote” mean?

    • You must have lived in the district for a minimum of 10 days. This means at your residence^*, and not merely a temporary stay.
    • You must be at least 18 years of age.
    • You must be a U.S. citizen.
    • You cannot be a felon.
    • You cannot be in jail at the moment.
    • You must not be judged incompetent by a court or be under guardianship.

    * Residence is defined in Wis Statute 6.10(1): "The residence of a person is the place where the person's habitation is fixed, without any present intent to move, and to which, when absent, the person intends to return."
