Why a SCAF?
The Sevastopol Community Auditorium Foundation organized over 5 years ago as the need for a drama/theatre/concert rehearsal and performance area arose at Sevastopol School. The past 8 years have seen an increase in the number of students performing in productions and an increase in the size of audiences at musicals, plays and concerts at Sevastopol School. Community members, students and staff have commented on the lack of good seating (both sight-wise for viewing and comfort,) sound and rehearsal/set-up time availability for the above mentioned performances and large meetings of the student body.Community members Kari Anderson and Jim Smith worked with school staff members Sue Godres, Kathryn Doar and Chris Audfermauer to organize the foundation. Thanks to the work of Jim Smith SCAF is a legally bound foundation with the State of WI.

After reaching foundation status, SCAF has met a handful of times to begin the discussion of the type of auditorium which would best fit the needs of the Sevastopol community and school district. Many questions/issues that have been raised and are not answered at this time include: size, cost, use, maintenance, management, etc... We have briefly discussed fundraising strategies/types with the Peninsula Music Festival and Allin Walker of Help of Door County. We have also toured local auditorium/theatres.Sevastopol Town Board
SCAF is meeting with the Sevastopol Town Board this evening (09/17/200) to give up-to-date general information on this large project. Members of our committee would like to give the town an opportunity to become part of this project. SCAF brainstorming sessions have included the possibility of having town offices and a large meeting room included in the design. We invite your comments on this project and would welcome the town to become involved in the process of design and use of this building. From Here...
Letters giving a brief overview of our project has been sent to various architectural firms. Presentations by interested firms will be given to the SCAF committee on Oct. 16th and 17th @ 3:30, 4:30 and 5:30 p.m. Representatives from the Sevastopol Town Board are welcome to sit in on the presentations. After the presentations, SCAF will meet to continue the discussion of auditorium design, community involvement, fundraising, contracting, etc...Tentative Design
Please see the tentative design for an auditorium. Please keep in mind this is only a reflection of a handful of brainstorming sessions by a few people. Once we have met with architects, discussed our project with the Sevastopol Town Board and meet again, the design may change greatly.ETC...
- At this time the design and use of this proposed facility is very open to discussion and change.
- At this time, we have no monetary numbers to work with. Our estimated cost of the building project we are desiring would be somewhere between $2-3 million in addition to upkeep maintenance costs.
- The School District of Sevastopol has given its support of this project.
- Location of the building would ideally be somewhere near and/or attached to the school to utilize the present parking lot.
- Our ideal timeline would include:
- this year
- define use, size, design of facility
- secure an architectural firm/general contractor
- design and begin a fundraising campaign
- next year
- complete the fundraising
- finalize design
- secure bids
- begin construction?
- the following year
- begin/finish construction
- move in!
